Overseeding is the process of spreading grass seed on top of your existing lawn to fill in thin spots, or in some cases, completely change grass varieties. Usually, the lawn is aerated first. Then the seeds are spread and fill in all of the bare spots to make your lawn full and green again.

During the aeration process, small plugs are removed  from your lawn so that water and nutrients can seep down to the roots and help them become healthy. After a few weeks, the root system is much stronger, and then overseeding can be done. The result is a full and lush lawn.

Doing a complete renovation involves removing all of your existing lawn, cultivating the soil and then putting down new sod. Overseeding is much simpler, and brings beautiful results quickly. Keep in mind, depending on your location and turf type, the optimal time for overseeding may vary.
